Funds Will Aid Municipalities in Elevating Homes at Risk of Flooding

(Washington, DC) - Today, Pennsylvania Congressman Patrick Murphy (D-8th District) announced over $950,000 in federal Severe Repetitive Loss (SRL) grants for Bridgeton Township, Yardley Borough, and Lower Makefield to assist in home elevation and fight flood damage. After months of working with municipalities and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Rep. Murphy secured the nearly $1 million in grants for the elevation of homes along the Delaware River. These funds will supplement $10 million in flood relief already provided to Bucks under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which Congressman Murphy proudly supported.

The SRL program exists for properties insured under the National Flood Insurance Program, and makes funding available to support local improvement efforts that will decrease the chance of flooding for high-risk properties. Bridgeton Township received $153,090, Lower Makefield received $200,340, and Yardley Borough received $601,020 for the elevation of homes along the flood plain in this latest round of Severe Repetitive Loss grants.

“This funding will help local government elevate and protect homes in the flood zone while creating jobs right here in our district,” said Rep. Murphy. “Protecting Bucks County families is one of the most important parts of my job, and I’ll continue to fight for more funds to promote economic growth and stem the devastating effects of flooding.”
