8th District Congressman Joins Kim and Glenn DeTample as Well as Family, Friends and Members of the Community to Honor National Guardsman and Pennsbury Grad
(Bristol, PA) – Today, with family and friends on hand, Pennsylvania Congressman Patrick Murphy (D-8th District) honored Nate DeTample of Morrisville by dedicating a post office in his name. Nate DeTample, who served with the Pennsylvania National Guard, died in Iraq in 2005. The ceremony on Saturday memorialized the Bucks County hero with the official unveiling of a plaque and the dedication of the Nate DeTample Post Office Building. After introducing a bill in Congress to create this honor and the president signing it into law, Murphy – himself an Iraq war veteran – spoke of DeTample’s dedication and the impact he had on his community. Murphy, along with Kim and Glenn DeTample unveiled a plaque with Nate’s name, which will serve as a constant reminder of Nate’s service to his country.
“This outpouring of support is a true testament to Nate DeTample’s spirit, his sacrifice and the great impact he had on the lives that he touched,” said Congressman Murphy. “I was honored to have worked in Congress to rename this post office after him. His service is an inspiration to all of us and his name will serve as a constant reminder of true dedication and devotion to family, friends and country.”
On Saturday, hundreds of people came to the Morrisville Post Office – now the Nate DeTample Post Office Building – to hear from those closest to Nate, including his parents and his friend Daniel Vagnozzi, a West Point Cadet. Others speaking at the ceremony were Brig. Gen. Joseph DePaul, Deputy Adjutant General for the PA Army National Guard, Joseph DeBaggis, Postmaster of the Morrisville Post Office, Frank Neri, Regional Director for the United States Postal Service and Rev. David Farina of Cavalry Full Gospel Church. The event also featured local leaders as well as the performance of the National Anthem by members of the Pennsbury High School choir.
About the Resolution
Last year, Rep. Murphy introduced and passed H.R. 3297, a measure to name the post office at 950 West Trenton Avenue the Nate DeTample Post Office Building. President Bush then signed this bill into law. The designation of the facility is now Public Law 110-123.
